From the dialectal term "Prun", literally protuberance, derives the name of the autochthonous variety of tomatoes grown in Lucera: the Prunill. Grown in arid culture, Prunill is small in size and elongated in shape, characterized by pointed ends. 

Typically the bunches of Prunill tomatoes are harvested in August and are kept hanging, held together by an iron wire, in the typical necklaces or crowns. The unique and intense taste of this tomato, with a silky texture, freshly processed and preserved in a jar, is unmistakable.
